Thanksgiving Vacation

We went to Wisconsin for Thanksgiving this year. No, we didn't fly, we made the 21 hour drive. We left here on Thursday the 15th around 4:00 pm and just drove until we got to Des Moines Iowa. Brian drove 14 of the 16 hours straight, I got to take the last two into Iowa. We decided to spend the night in Ankeny and try to see old friends, unfortunately, only 2 families were available, but we had fun talking to them. The next morning we got back on the road for another 5 hours to Windsor Wisconsin. As soon as we got there, I took off and met my mom for a scrapbook show and left with the kids at my mom's. Monday, we did our usual, go to the Amish stores and stock up!!! Sadly, the wood shop that we like burned down and the other one just didn't have much. Oh well, save me a little money.
Then it was off the children's museum. They have changed it since the last time we were there and it was really fun for the kids. Their favorite part was the shadow room where you get to make a shadow, it flashes a light, then you can see your shadow stay on the wall until you flash the picture again.
The biggest part of the trip was the Kalahari hotel in Wisconsin Dells. It boasts the largest indoor water park in America. WOW, they aren't kidding! It's like taking raging waters and putting it indoor! Well, the wave pool was smaller, but it had a huge lazy river, about 8 full size water slides, including the kids favorite: the Master Blaster. It's a roller coaster type slide so you go up and down hills with water pushing you up. It was so fun!!! There was also one that we called the "toilet bowl." Not much fun! you fly down a pitch black tube then into a huge bowl where you spin around a few times until you are "flushed" out the bottom, usually head first, or on your side. You don't know where you are the whole time. I can say I did it, but that's about it. There were lots of play areas for whitney and hot tubs all over the place that even the kids could get in. If we wanted to wait in line for an hour, they even had a surfing pool. It was neat, but too long to wait.
There was so much to do there we could have spent days just in the hotel. They have a Kamp Kalahari for the kids where they do free activities about 2-3 hours. There is cookie decorating, bead making, coloring contests, a craft time, and every night there is a free movie. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a week long resort vacation!
We also went to a place called the MooseJaw and had pizza. They give the kids a moose hat to wear while they eat.
After that, it was Thanksgiving day and my dad made the yummiest turkey! It totally could have come out of Martha Stewart living! What yummy food! I miss my parents cooking!
Then it was time for the dreaded drive home. We left friday and went as far as Council Bluffs Iowa where we spent the night. Saturday we took the kids to the Omaha zoo to try and wear them out for the long 14 hours home. It's such an enormous zoo! It was soooo cold, we thought we'd be the only ones there, but we were wrong!!! It was so busy! The favorites there were the orangutans (my favorite always) and the aquarium. It's one of those that has the sharks and sting rays that swim right over your head!
The drive from there felt extremely long! Brian again drove the whole way. About Park City, just one hour from home, at 2:30 am, Whitney just couldn't take it anymore and threw up. Then Hillary suddenly felt sick so we handed her a plastic bag and opened her windows. We made it home about 3:30 am, and just crashed until about 10:00.
It was a lot of fun. The week just flew by! I just don't know that I can handle the drive again!

Dinner at the Moose Jaw, don't they look like the like each other?

This is at the Omaha zoo in the desert dome. It was nice and warm in here!

The kids had a good time at the children's museum. I enjoyed this little drum room, it had a really neat rain stick.

Freezing at the zoo!!!! What is he doing in shorts???
This was at the Kalahari. They had a huge arcade room and with our package deal we got 100 free tokens. We used them well!
Cute girls lounging at the Kalahari pool.
This was the huge fountain in the lobby of the Kalahari
Carter is just too cute!!!

Sounds like fun (except the long drive and kids getting sick). I wish we could have been there!

That zoo is sooo cool! The aquarium was my favorite...so close to all those sharks! I worried about the glass breaking with all the kids pushing on it!
