The Drive Home...Part II

After driving through two tornado filled storms, we safely arrived in Kansas City and woke up Monday morning and headed off to Worlds of Fun. This is a peanuts themed amusement park. They had some great roller coasters so that kept Carter and Hillary happy. Our favorites were Mamba (Hillary and Carter's favorite), Prowler (Brian's favorite), Boomerang (Chari's favorite), and Patriot ( a close 2nd for many). Carter tried as hard as he could to grow 2 inches so he could get on Patriot but with no luck. The staff isn't as liberal as at Lagoon. They also had a great kiddie land which kept Whitney and Kemery happy. Whitney enjoyed a few larger rides as well...whatever they would let her on. If you are ever passing through Kansas City, we would recommend a stop at Worlds of Fun. If you go in the summer, you can go to the waterpark as well. If you stay at the comfort inn across the road, they have rooms with 3 queen beds...at regular price. Nice!

After our fun at Worlds of Fun, we drove to Omaha to visit the zoo and see the winter quarters Temple and Pioneer Visitors Center. Unfortunately, as soon as we pulled in to Omaha, so did the Thunderstorms and we were forced to abandon our zoo plans. We had a great time at the visitors center. If you have never been, it is right across from the winter quarters temple in North Omaha. They have a beautiful visitors center and the sister missionaries take you through a timeline tour of church history. The kids get to dress up like pioneers. They also get to try and pack a minature wagon with everything you think you will need on the trek from Iowa to Utah. They have amazing exhibits and replica's of wagons, steam ships that brought immigrants from England, a hand cart you can try out, movies, etc. We spent nearly 2 hours there and had a great time. They also had a sculpture display in the basement at the time we were there. The sculptures were all about the life of Christ. Amazing atmosphere and music...really felt the spirit as even Kemery was quite. Unfortunately, no pictures allowed or we would have shared those as well.

After Omaha, there is a whole lot of nothing until you get to Salt Lake City. We hit some rough storms again in western Nebraska but made it through and spent the night in Cheyenne....freezing!!! And it took about 8 hotel attempts before we found a reasonably priced, medium quality room for the night. We made it to Utah Wednesday and finally enjoyed some rest from traveling in cars and almost 2 straight weeks of hotel rooms.

All in all, a good trip home. Made some good memories, saw some interesting sights, avoided any major fights in the car, and most importantly.....no one threw up. All in all, successful 2000 mile adventure!

I love the part of "no throw-up" cause that is a major feat with so much traveling! way to go! And I'm so glad you loved World's of Fun - I never say "Lagoon" when I think of Amusement parks - it was always about Worlds of Fun for me while I was growing up! Kinda cool that you went to my neck of the woods for a bit!
