A true Swensen

Kemery has felt a bit left out over the past year. She didn't have a scar on her head anywhere to match the rest of the family. Until today. She had had enough of it and decided that today was the day to become a true Swensen. We have done all we could to baby proof our house: gate on the stairs, rubber bands on the cupboards, laid the kitchen chairs on their backs. What more could we do to have our house be safe? Apparently, we need to just get rid of anything that is more than 3 inches off the floor or that has corners. While enjoying a few minutes with the kids playing video games, Brian let Kemery climb on the couch. She did her best swan dive right over the arm rest and onto the edge of the bookshelf below. Brian ran up the stairs with her over his arm and blood running down her neck. She had landed right on the back of her head and had a large, deep gash in her hair. Not the face like the other kids though. So, after calling the pediatrician and finding that they didn't have after hours at their clinic, it was off the ER. Two hours later (I hear that's pretty quick for an ER visit), she returned, cheerful and her normal self with 3 staples in her head. She didn't cry a whole lot though, just more mad that we were holding rags on her head. At least it wasn't a face wound like all the rest of the family though. I'm sure that day isn't too far off.

A bad picture of Kemery's ouchie

They put some numbing gel on her head and wrapped her up. She kept it on for a whole 10 minutes! That's longer than any headband she's ever worn.

3 Staples and it took less than one minute to do. Alot easier than holding her down for 10 minutes while they do the needle and thread work like all the other kids.

ah shucks! I'm sorry to see that she wanted to match her other siblings - but I guess it was inevitable!
