Happy Late Birthday Carter!

My poor boy always seems to get a little jipped (how do you spell that anyway?) every year for his birthday. This year was probably the worst yet. Not too many things went terribly right this time. He had this dream day all planned out, each gift he would receive, all the fun things he would do. Here's how the day should have gone, according to his perfectly laid plans...Breakfast in bed, lunch with mom at school, popsicles for his class treat especially for his favorite teacher, come home for a great movie, dinner at IHOP, all the right presents in all the right order, then an Angry Birds birthday cake for dessert. Here's how it really went...

There was a bad thunderstorm the night before and I made all the kids sleep in my room so he had to wake me up, get dressed, then I finally got him Honey Nut Cheerios, not his favorite, but because we are moving, they were stuck with whatever is left in the cupboard. I did bring him lunch at school-he requested KFC grilled chicken legs. They were out of grilled so we got extra crispy instead. He was still hungry and the mashed potatoes had too much gravy and silly mom left his Sierra Mist in the car. I did remember to take his treats to school, but his teacher was out and they had a sub that day. Oh well, they all still ate popsicles and cookies. The kids came home and we looked at all the movies that were playing and ended up choosing to see Rango at the cheap theater. BAD IDEA!!! Terrible movie! Way too much suggestive material and swearing. Then off to IHOP. He didn't really like his pancakes or eggs and the OJ was too pulpy. Off to home for presents. Sadly, because of the move, all I had was pink wrapping paper. He opened them to find that he didn't get MegaMind for the DS, but a Pokemon game instead. It was his second choice. He got an iTunes gift card, but because the computer is packed away in Utah, I can't upload Michael Jackson and Beatles songs to his iPod. He had discovered a bow and arrow in the closet a few days before and that was fun to play with (until mom shot an arrow and busted off the tip). He got cash which made him quite happy, then the dreaded boring old T-shirts. He seemed ok with his Calvin and Hobbes book and a magic book though. I did my best to get a cake that he'd like since they don't make Angry Birds cakes. He got one with sprinkles the colors of the birds and pigs. Close enough. We were too full from dinner to eat cake so we sang, blew out the candles, then put the lid back on for another day.

Someday my sweet boy will get a really great birthday and have something to remember. Love you Carter!!!
